It was last year when I first tasted the sweet perfume of the mountain (though I wasn't able to blog it here), that was the time we climbed Mt. Kan-irag in
My trekking adventure has been followed when me and my friends decided to climb Mt.
So here's our joy and struggle of getting to the peak of Mt. Mauyog.
Meetup at JY Square, Lahug at around 8 AM. We ate our breakfast here while waiting for the other group to arrive. |
We left at around 9:30 AM. |
We rented a PUJ to take us from JY Square to Cantipla, Brgy. Tabunan |
At around 11 AM, we arrived at Cantipla, Brgy. Tabunan. One of the Brgy. staffs welcomed us and gave us orientation about the trek. She collected 30php each for the entrance fee then another 700php for the local guide. If you want to save yourself from paying for the local guide, you may opt to take the paved road from the Balamban Transcentral Highway going to the base of Mt. Mauyog. This is also easier compared to the Sunog trail but as they say, the reward of the true summit cannot be completely felt or even achieved without enduring the challenge and hardwork along the way.
The Barangay staff, however, discouraged us from going up to Mt. Mauyog as the place has been temporarily closed to the public as advised by the DENR. Despite the warnings, we still decided to climb Mt. Mauyog and tried our luck.
When everything was settled, we started to trek to Mt. Mauyog. It was around 12NN when we left Brgy. Tabunan.
Here are some pictures from our 3-4 hours walk to Brgy. Sunog. Sunog trail is known to be a steep but fairly easy trail.

That feeling when you can get some rest and eat your lunch after an hour of walk. :)
Another few hours of walk before getting to the real challenge. |
Getting a little higher! |
And finally! (Don't mind my face, though) |
Here's a glimpse of the famous brain-like rock formation of Mt. Mauyog.
Reaching the top is really rewarding! :) |

This deserves a groufie! |
This is my friend Steffi a.k.a Panyang with her signature smile posing with Ate, our guide going up to the peak. She really took good care of Steffi that she did not mind us at all. Kidding! :p
Thank you, Ate!
One bukid down! Now it's time to traverse Mt. Manunggal Campsite.
Meet our dog guide to Mt. Manunggal. Thanks to this awesome dog, we saved a few cash from paying a local guide. :D

It was already raining when we reached Mt. Manunggal campsite at around 5:30 PM. We never expected this because the sun was bright and glorious when we left the city earlier. I guess that's the kind of life. Everything changes, even the weather is unpredictable. In the evening, the rain did not stop from falling. I already zipped my HyVent jacket up to the chin but I was still shivering the whole time. Our tents were not fully waterproof - so rainwater just came in pouring down on us while we're sleeping. It was my first time experiencing this and all I can say is.. Finding comfort even in uncomfortable situations is what you need.

Take nothing but memories, leave nothing but footprints. |
Though this adventure did not turn out the way we expect it to be, I still consider this as my AIVENTURE -- a memorable and unforgettable one. Can't wait for my next AIventure. :)
